Dear readers

Jon Christensen Dear readers,

This summer I asked some of the people who are most intimately involved with putting out this rag to answer the question "What is Great Basin News?" in 25 words or less. Here are some of our thoughts. We'd love to see yours too.

"A quarterly embracing the intelligence, diversity, humor and spirit of the Great Basin community," wrote photo editor Kit Miller, "its basins and ranges, neighborhoods and peoples, casinos and wildlands."

"A spunky cocktail of eclectic information from deep in the heart of the sagebrush steppe," wrote Kelly Cash, a friend and adviser. "For people in love with the world's most misunderstood landscape and the misunderstood people who live here."

"Great Basin News stakes out as its beat people's daily lives," wrote Chris Carlsson, our art director. "It brings a critical sensibility to an affirmative, thoughtful perspective on the human and natural communities that coexist in a unique and ever-changing balance in the Great Basin's unmatched landscape."

"Information, stories, poetry, pictures, good controversial writing," wrote Chris Paterson, our Web designer. "It should make you smile : ^) and make you love to live in the Great Basin!"

"A quarterly of journalism, fiction, poetry, photography and art for people who love the Great Basin," I wrote, "Great Basin News is a magazine of diverse voices that come together to celebrate a regional identity and create a sense of community."

So what do you say?

Yours truly,
